How do I analyse irregular responses in 5 point Likert scale questionnaire?

Analyse responses on questionnaire written on 5 point Likert scale.

While developing a questionnaire on 5 point Likert scale and conducting a pilot study I noticed a lot of responses were inconsistent. Like a respondent has indicated 'Strongly agree' on a positive item and on the 'reverse item (negative)' the respondent has indicated 'Disagree' instead of Strongly Disagree. Should I consider these responses valid or delete the responses or should I change the Likert scale to 3 points?

I would recommend you not change the Likert scale and not remove the responses, as it is showing consistency. You can also keep this under consideration when making a questionnaire do not use negative polarity items as it often leads to inconsistent responses and the respondents sometimes might respond in accordance with the positive polarity items.
