How to choose a supervisor?

I started my PhD in March and was assigned a supervisor but i was not at all happy with him because he never helped me. No matter how much effort I used to put, I always got a poor feedback. According to my university guideline, i could change my supervisor once so i asked my university to assign me a new supervisor so now they have given me four choices. My question is how do I choose? I really don’t want someone like the previous one. Any suggestions?

You can check the supervision history of the mentors you have in the list of options, you can also talk with the candidates who have been supervised by him previously. Ask them about their supervisors, How was there experience? What were their experiences? Were they helpful enough? This is the best way to make out who’s going to be worth it. Good Luck!

I think living a positive life is the key and I would suggest you to choose a supervisor who is positive in himself so that he would be able to keep you positive. Choose a supervisor who helps you and not criticizes you at every step of your research. I guess that’s the most important thing. Rest it’s up to you because no matter what you’ll have to show patience with your supervisor. There’s no way of escaping it!’

I think you should choose the supervisor who has these qualities: Supervisor with whom you had some interactions at undergraduate or postgraduate level may be any of your lecturer, dissertation advisor, or Masters supervisor. People from your university/department you really have a broad idea about your research area.
