Material alteration process in chillers for heat reduction application.

Hi, I am in final year PhD student working on chillers for heat reduction application. Here the problem is I am not able to select proper materials which can be used in chillers and my mentor suggested me to use altered materials for the same. But i am not aware of what process is that, can any body help me to understand this material alteration process?

Material alteration is nothing but incorporation of different materials in one single base material. In this case, the base material will remain same for chillers (eg copper etc) incorporating some other material (eg ceramics etc) via coating is called as material altreation. This is done to enhance the  certain properties of the materials like temperature withstandability etc, with minimizing the cost.
