Material alteration process

Hi, I am in final year PhD student working on chillers for heat reduction application. Here the problem is I am not able to select proper materials which can be used in chillers and my mentor suggested me to use altered materials for the same. But I am not aware of what process is that, can anybody help me to understand this material alteration process?

The material alteration is nothing but the incorporation of different materials in one single base material. In this case, the base material will remain the same for chillers (eg copper etc) incorporating some other material (eg ceramics etc) via coating is called material alteration. This is done to enhance the certain properties of the materials like temperature, by minimizing the cost.
