My supervisor

I have just started with my PhD and now I need to choose a supervisor for me but I want to have a supervisor from my previous university. The problem is that my proposed Supervisor’s working department is not a recognized research department so the question is whether he can act as Supervisor or not? Can I register under his guidance?

It entirely depends on your university’s rules and regulations. You can check them and choose accordingly.
I think it would be better if you choose a supervisor from your university only.

I agree with the above user as choosing a supervisor from your university would help you in the following ways:
You can reach him out anytime.
He would know the rules of your university.
He would be able to help you in a better way.
