What is plagiarism?

I have completed my thesis, and now my mentor wants me to check it’s plagiarism, but the problem is I don’t know what it is? And how it is checked?

Plagiarism is detected in a document when you tend to use the words or ideas of others. You can follow the points given below to avoid the plagiarism: • Always give credit for facts, quotations, and opinions that are not common knowledge, even when expressed in your own words. • Always give credit when you use another person’s wording, even a phrase. Use quotation marks. • Write your first draft with your notes and books closed. Don’t go back and forth between your ideas and sources.
