Industrial robots rely on predictable, cyclical operations. Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDS) are vital because hackers can disrupt this periodicity to cause catastrophic failures—like stopping an arm mid-operation or forcing dangerous errors. By monitoring for abnormal network traffic or deviations from expected program states, NIDS can identify attacks early, preventing physical damage, production halts, and safety hazards, thus ensuring operational integrity and protecting both assets and personnel.
