Plagiarism is an offence in this academic world, as well as in Journalism to speak. Most universities take strict disciplinary action if a student is caught cheating or plagiarizing, that often leads to rejection of work for such a serious offence.
However, there is a lack of clear-cut rules on what percentage of plagiarism is acceptable. Going by convention, usually, a text similarity is below 15% is acceptable. And, a similarity of more than 20% is considered as high percentage plagiarism
