To perform mode-superposition transient dynamic analysis in ANSYS, you will have to build a model, obtain a modal and mode-superposition transient solution, and expand them. To build a model, specify a jobname and analysis title. You use a preprocessor to define element types, material properties, and model geometry. To obtain a modal solution, use modal analysis and determine the vibration characteristics of a structure. To obtain mode-superposition extract the modal solution and calculate the transient response. To expand mode-superposition solution, start with a transient solution and calculate the distance, force and stress solution.

If you want to simulate nonlinear dynamics may be you can use another popular approach known as ‘full solution’. In this method, full system matrices are used to calculate transient response at every solution point.

Depending on the nature of loading, you can use (a) direct transient response analysis (b) modal transient response analysis approach. The first method calculates the response of a system to a load over time, whereas modal transient response analysis is a natural extension of normal modes analysis.
