In an AMOS path diagram, the measurement model specifies how latent, unobserved constructs (represented as ovals) are measured by their observed indicator variables (represented as rectangles). It assesses reliability and validity. The structural model specifies the hypothesized causal relationships and paths between the latent constructs themselves. Visually, it consists of the arrows connecting the ovals. Analytically, the measurement model must be validated first to ensure the constructs are well-defined before evaluating the strength and significance of the paths in the structural model.
