Control variables are included to account for alternative explanations, thereby strengthening the validity of the hypothesized relationships between core constructs. Their defense rests on a clear theoretical or empirical rationale that these extraneous factors (e.g., demographics, experience) could influence the dependent variable. By statistically accounting for them in the SEM model, I isolate the unique effect of the independent variables, providing a more rigorous and accurate test of the theoretical framework. Â
