Newton iteration involves expanding of nonlinear circuit device similar to a Taylor series but keeping the first two terms and solving the simultaneous linear equation’s resultant system. The success of convergence of Newton iteration results in determining a numerical proof t of the circuit.

Newton iteration depends on (1) Circuit element I-V curves being continuous in slope &value (2) Nonlinear elements being bypassed with capacitance, so that the earlier time step solution is a beginning point for the Newton iteration of the present time point.

The conditions mentioned above are met by the physical circuit. But the SPICE programs don’t get this right due to the semiconductive devices. Semiconductive devices in Berkeley SPICE have discontinuities and on implementing them (errors) have spilled over to pay-for SPICE implementations. However, these discontinuities do not occur in LTspice.
