Paper chromatography vs thin layer chromatography

Should I make use of paper chromatography or thin layer chromatography to separate the organic compounds? Research field is chemistry.

I guess you can use paper chromatography to separate organic compounds.

Manasa, paper chromatography is used to separate pigments and not organic compounds. To separate organic compounds you have to use thin-layer chromatography.

Keerthi, you have to use thin-layer chromatography and not paper chromatography. This technique involves a stationary phase containing a thin layer of adsorbent material and a liquid phase containing the solution to be separated is dissolved in a solvent that is drawn via capillary action. Here the separated spots are visualised using UV rays or by using iodine vapour. Remember, this technique can be used to determine the pigments of a plant contains as well.
