Research in finance vs accounts

I have completed my M.com. I want pursue my PhD degree. Which area should I choose? Finance or accounts? Also please suggest me some latest topics in both the fields.

Both the fields have equal scope. Finance and accounts are very important in all sectors around the world. Hence you can take up any among the two. Some of the topics in finance are:
Audit fee expense
Determinant of capital structure in trade industry
Effect of interest rate on stock markets/ share price
