The most common qualitative methods are participant observation, in-depth interviews, and focus groups. • Participant observation – It is appropriate for gathering data on naturally occurring behaviors. • In-depth interviews – These are optimal for gathering data on individuals’ perspectives and experiences. • Focus groups- These are effective in generating overviews of issues of concern to the cultural groups or subgroups.

I had used focus groups method. This method is basically an interview method, but is done in as a group discussion. When the object of the data is attitudes and behaviors, especially in social situations, using the focus group approach is recommended. Depending on the data being sought, the group members should have something in common. For example, a study on the recovery of mothers (married) from alcoholism. Here choose women who are (1) married, (2) have kids, and (3) recovering alcoholics. Other factors such as the age, employment status, etc need not be similar across the members of the focus group.

Dani, there is a method called longitudinal studies. This is a data collection method that is performed (repeatedly), on the same data sources, over a period of time. Here the goal is to find correlations through either an empirical or observational study of subjects.
