Adithi, according to me, a linear accelerator produces the electron beam that is used to create a synchrotron radiation. On application of large PD, electrons are emitted by the cathode. Electrons in the beam form bunches having a size of the wavelength of a radio system.

What is the PD of the bunch of electrons that are produced?

Well, it is around 250MeV.

Adithi, carol has already mentioned about linear accelerator. in the next step i.e. in the booster ring, the RF system boosts the energy of an electron beam. This causes further bunching, and the electrons gain sufficient energy. The energy gained by the electrons are lost as the radiation is emitted when the electrons pass through the bending magnets.
