Descriptive statistics and its types


HELLO,
I’m new to statistical field. My supervisor mentioned about some descriptive statistics in class the other day, but I didn’t understand it well. Can someone please help me out with they actually mean and are there any further types as well!!

Hi. Descriptive statistics involves summarizing and organising the data. The two types of descriptive statistics are measure of central tendency and measure of variability.

Yes, descriptive statistics consists 2 segments: Measure of central tendency and measure of variability. Measure of central tendency is further classified into mean/average, mode, median. Measure of variability is classified into standard deviation, mean absolute deviation, variance, range, percentile and quartile

Descriptive statistics summarizes the data sets into averages, mode, sums and more importantly into visual displays such graphs, scatter plots etc. Descriptive statistics enables to describe trends, patterns of the observed or collected data.
