Seema, Many a time, statistical technique is not considered as a data mining technique by the data analyst. This test is used to identify/discover patterns and also to build predictive models. Whereas clustering technique is used to identify data that are similar.

Neethi you are absolutely right. Statistical technique is not considered as a data mining technique by many. This technique involves collection as well as summarising data in addition to identifying the patterns. Clustering technique helps you to understand the crucial differences as well as similarities between the data. This technique is also called as segmentation technique and helps you to understand the process going on within the database.
