Research field: Nurturing Important Skills to PhD students.
5 years ago in Research Writing By Veena
This question applies to any person having any idea to help PhD students nurturing some important skills that imperative to get a PhD and continue in research field successfully. I would like you to assist me in providing the most important skills.
Very simple question, but it indeed blocks our road when we go wrong. So, I say it’s good you’ve asked.
Firstly, I would recommend you to attend and present at many conferences as possible, because they stimulate new ways of looking at your research problems,
and ensure that you’ve been up-to-date about the data collection.
It also makes you connect with other people who are interested in similar projects/subjects, as well as making sure you’re developing as a researcher in your field.
Prior to that, develop skills in research methodology & certain creativity and flexibility of mind are also important issues. So nurture them!
Hope you do great! All the best.

I mostly work in the field of psychology, but I guess that there are many general skills that are similar across various disciplines. I often make workshops for PhDs’ or beginning scholars across all disciplines. Here is a list of what usually helps in students to be successful in research; 1. Cooperate with someone who is more experienced & skilled. 2. Work continuously in smaller steps. 3. Seek facilitation & help from the advisors or colleagues. 4. Love the research. 5. Praise the failures & be courageous. 6. Learn, time-management 7. Know the whole research process. 8. Finally, leave the academic and research world (if that’s not for you when finding) That’s it, I reckon. Best regards mate!

Persistence and the skill of avoiding procrastination would aid you a lot that keeps you going forward, here are some simple tips to follow, 1. Keep track of things you do. As it is a study of 4 years, you might be overwhelmed by the great research work you do. Keep simple notes of everything you do & it would aid you while writing a thesis. 2. Be patient and believe in yourself. Sometimes things go wrong, even though you gave your best. Take help from others who keep you strong. 3. Learn to get things done and collaborate with others who are working on similar topics, it would keep you motivated. Cheers & best of luck!
