When should one opt for mixed methods? Also, what are the different types of mixed methods?

mixed methods are of four types. Sequential explanatory design, sequential exploratory design, concurrent triangulation, and concurrent nested design. 1.Sequential explanatory design collection and analysis of quantitative data followed by qualitative data. This type of mixed method is used to interpret contextualise results. 2.Sequential exploratory design involves collection and analysis is qualitative data followed by quantitative data. 3.Concurrent triangulation approach involves only one data collection phase. The qualitative and quantitative data are collected separately. 4.Concurrent nested involves collection of predominant method.

Mixed methods are generally used under 2 cases. When the results obtained from other methods are to be collaborated and when the qualitative research findings are to be generalised.

Mixed methods can be used under the following conditions. 1. When the research question is to be viewed from different angles 2. When a theory pertaining to the phenomenon of interest needs to be developed 3. When the results from other methods is need to be elaborated or clarified
