Basic information regarding XPSa

5 years ago in Research Writing By Raghav V

Hi all. I’m conducting research in chemistry. I want to use x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy for determining surface analysis of electrically conducting sample. I haven’t used this equipment earlier. Can someone provide me some basic information about it?

XPS can not only be used to determine surface analysis but also can be used to determine the depth profiling on surfaces identify and measure the surface contamination and organic overlayers, analysis of nanoparticles, identification of counterfeit products, used in catalysis and corrosion studies, and many more.

XPS analyses the surface chemistry of a sample up to a depth of approximately 5 nm. It uses soft x-ray sources to ionise electrons from the surface of a solid sample.
