The commonly used approaches are qualitative, quantitative and method methods. Qualitative research provides an in-depth description of actual situations thereby stimulating deep thinking. It also offers the opportunity to discover phenomenons that are worthy of investigation. Quantitative approach analyses time series, polls etc. Qualitative data focuses on incidents that happen naturally and the data being collected in this method is in close proximity to a specific situation. Mixed methods help in better understating of the phenomena surveyed. These are an excellent method of obtaining useful, balanced and informative results.

Quantitative methods in management field fail miserably to put variables into context leaving out social qualities. This method is more suited for international affairs field .

I agree with Aarav. Although quantitative method is used in management studies field, it it widely used in international affair field. In management studies field, it is advisable to use qualitative approach. However, mixed method is least used in this area.
