Is there any difference in SPSS to specify between the variable as Ordinal or Scale? I know they are different in meaning , but it seems to be like for me they treat same while calculating. Can anyone elaborate on this to clear my doubt

A clear question. But, let me answer on that one first regarding the difference. No! They aren’t same while calculation. Let me elaborate on them specifically. Ordinal: a variable can be treated as Ordinal when its values represent the certain categories with some intricsing rankings. For e.g. level of satisfaction from a service that gives the view of highly dissatisfied to highly satisfied. Examples of the ordinal variable can be attitude score of like representing the degree of level of satisfaction or confidence and preferred ratings or rankings. For ordinal string variables, the alphabetical order of the string values is presumed to reflect the true order of the categories. Generally, it is more reliable to use the numerical codes to present the original data. Scale: a variable can be treated as scale when its values represent the ordered category with a defining metric, so that the distance comparisons between values are relevant. Examples of scale variables include the age in years and income in thousands in different currencies.

Hey  According to me, for the tables and graphs you must define exactly if a variable is ordinal or scale. And for usage of labels in ordinal variables you should define the assets of the variable clearly. If it’s an operative usage, then you could change the variable type when you need it as one particular like ordinal or scale, depending upon which type of analysis you will do in SPSS.
