Software suitable for my research type

Hello everyone. I am currently pursuing my PhD in computer networks and completed my course work. I need some suggestions on how to go forward with my research. I have formulated some idea to design novel algorithm but during the process, I am struck up. Routing protocol is designed which is already existing. Need guidance in how to bring in novelty on that protocol and which software is feasible for doing the same.

From the query, it is clear that you are designing a WSN for data transmission wherein you intent to design a novel routing protocol for efficient transmission. For enhancement/novelty, I would suggest you to bring in some multi optimal approach to the protocol by considering certain parameters which will improve the protocol performance. As per this idea stated, the simulation can be carried out in NS2/NS3
