Technique followed to sterilize fluid material

My research field is microbiology. I’m supposed to use membrane filter to sterilize fluid material. What is the technique followed here? Is there any other tool that can be used for this purpose?

Hey buddy. This technique allows enumeration and isolation of microorganisms. The procedure followed here is: Gather the sample and make necessary dilutions. 1.Choose an apt culture medium. Dispense broth into a sterile Petri dish. 2.Flame the forcep, and eliminate the membrane from the sterile package. 3.Keep the membrane filter in the funnel assembly. 4.Pour the sample into the funnel and turn on the vacuum to allow the sample draw completely through the filter. 5.Flame the forcep, remove the membrane filter from the funnel and place the membrane filter in the prepared petri dish. 6.Incubate at appropriate temperature. 7.Count the colonies.

I don’t think there is any better technique that can replace membrane filter technique. This technique has several benefits like It permits testing of large sample volumes. We can transfer the membrane from one medium to another for selection or differentiation of organisms. Results are obtained more rapidly when compared to that of conventional method.

I do agree. It is better to use membrane filter technique rather than conventional MNP methods. This technique involves less preparation when compared to the traditional methods.m
