The WiMAX network architecture was developed by the WiMAX form. The WiMAX network architecture is based upon an all-IP model. The network architecture comprises three major elements:
Mobile stations: These equipments may be fixed and may be located around the user.
Access Service Network, ASN: This area of the WiMAX network that forms the radio access network at the edge and comprises one or more base stations and ASN gateways.
Connectivity Service Network, CSN: This part provides the IP connectivity and all the IP core network functions.
