Hello Sneha. A theoretical framework is a collection of interrelated concepts together with their definitions and reference to relevant, existing theory that is used for your particular study. It helps researcher clearly see the variables, provide with general framework for data analysis, and helps in preparing research proposal.

Vineet has already mentioned some benefits of using theoretical framework. Here I would like to include some more. Theoretical assumptions permits the reader to evaluate them critically. The theoretical framework connects the researcher to existing knowledge. Having a theory helps you identify the limits to generalizations.

Hey Sneha, to develop a theoretical framework, just follow these steps: Examine your thesis title and research problem. Brainstorm about what you consider to be the key variables in your research. Review related literature to find how previous researchers have addressed the similar research problem. List the constructs and variables that might be relevant to your study. Review key social science theories and discuss the assumptions.
