5 years ago in By Meghna R

In research works we use different strategies such as inductive and deductive (the most popular ones). Recently, I came across retroduction and abduction strategies. I don’t know anything about these two strategies. Kindly explain them.

The retroductive research strategy aims to discover underlying mechanisms such as contexts and explain observed regularities. The logic behind retroduction strategy is it involves working from data back to explanation and refers hypothetical structures building and mechanisms that produce empirical phenomena.

Retroductive approach differs from inductive approach. Inductive approach infers from one or another set of facts. Whereas retroductive infers from one kind of facts to facts of another. Reproductive reasoning are synthetic and involve in making a hypothesis which explains the observed phenomenon. Eg, science includes atoms, viruses etc which were hypothetical entities before scientific technology was advanced to observe them.

Abductive research strategy includes constructing theories from participants language and accounts in the context of everyday activities. This begins by describing the activities and then deriving from them concepts that form the basis of an understanding of the research problem.
