Correlation in statistics describes the relationship between two or more variables whereas causation describes that one event is the result of the occurrence of another.

Causation is established whereas correlation is measured. Causation is established by using a controlled study.  In the controlled study, the population and sample are split into 2 with both the groups being compared with each other.  However, the two groups receive different treatments and their results are evaluated. Correlation is measured by using the correlation coefficient. The coefficient is represented as ‘r’. The range of coefficient ranges from -1.0 and +1.0.
