How to test hypothesis using pooled standard deviation?

Can I use pooled standard deviation in hypothesis testing? If yes, how it is done?

Pooled standard deviation is not often used in hypothesis testing. We use pooled standard deviation only if we want to know the standard deviations for both populations. That is if they are equal (σ1=σ2). In statistics, most of the two-sample mean tests are performed. As a result, we do not use a pooled standard deviation.
