In stepper motor the electromagnets are energised using an external control circuit.    To turn the motor shaft, initially one electromagnet will be given some power, using which the gear’s teeth gets    magnetically attracted to the electromagnet’s teeth. When the gear’s teeth comes into alignment with the first electromagnet,    they becomes slightly offset from the next electromagnet. Now when the first electromagnet is turned off and the next is turned on,    the gear rotates to align with the next one and the process will be repeated. Each of the slight rotations is known as step. In this way the motor is turned.
